Greece Prepares for Mandatory B2B E-Invoicing

The European Commission has approved Greece’s plan to make electronic invoicing mandatory for business-to-business (B2B) transactions, with the aim of improving VAT collection through the use of real-time invoice data and simplifying tax procedures for businesses through automated processes.

These efforts will rely on the myDATA platform, Greece’s digital system that ensures compliance with the European standard EN 16931 for electronic invoices.

The Greek government will notify the European Commission of its plans to enforce these changes, and in the meantime businesses should start preparing by upgrading their systems and learning how to comply with the new e-invoicing rules.Additional resources and guidance will be provided by Greece’s tax authority and the European Commission.

The changes will take effect from 1 July 2025 and are expected to remain valid until the introduction of uniform EU-wide rules for e-invoicing under the ViDA directive. These updates align with the EU’s goal of modernising tax compliance across all Member States.
