On May 7, 2025, two updates were released in the European e-invoicing landscape: Germany’s ZUGFeRD 2.3.3 and France’s Factur-X 1.07.3. These synchronized releases mark a significant step toward full interoperability between the two countries’ hybrid e-invoicing formats, both of which comply with the EU’s EN 16931 standard.
Key enhancements have been made to both versions:
- Updated EN 16931 code lists.
- Editorial and validation improvements
- Support for French VAT exemption codes (VATEX)
- Rounding flexibility introduced in the EXTENDED profile
Both ZUGFeRD and Factur-X formats pair a readable PDF/A-3 invoice with embedded XML data, supporting automated processing while maintaining human readability. As France and Germany prepare for mandatory B2B e-invoicing, these updates provide businesses with technically harmonized tools for compliance.
