Romania’s National Agency for Fiscal Administration (ANAF) has announced an extensive new wave of tax audits aimed at more than 500 large taxpayers across multiple industries. According to the agency, territorial inspection teams under the General Directorate for the Administration of Large Taxpayers will conduct these inspections in the coming weeks.
The initiative is part of ANAF’s broader strategy to strengthen tax compliance and reduce fiscal risks. Authorities will verify the accuracy of declared obligations, assess payment consistency, and address potential discrepancies identified through advanced risk-analysis tools. ANAF noted that the selection of taxpayers was based on complex internal data evaluations and IT-driven monitoring systems designed to detect non-compliance indicators.
Through this intensified control effort, ANAF aims not only to improve revenue collection but also to support taxpayers in meeting their legal obligations, reinforcing a transparent and fair tax system.
