Belgium Podcast

In this episode, we discuss the latest regulations in Belgium with our Account Management Director Tuğçe Özgün and Senior R&D Project Manager Ayça Çetin. In this podcast series, our goal is to keep you informed about the current regulations and innovations in tax technology around the globe.

Today, we’re focusing on Belgium’s upcoming transition to mandatory B2B e-Invoicing, which is set to begin on January 1, 2026. The Belgian government is gradually rolling out this regulation to improve tax efficiency, reduce tax evasion, and simplify business operations.

What are the latest changes regarding Belgium’s e-Invoicing regulation?

Belgium has announced that starting from January 1, 2026, e-Invoicing will become mandatory for all B2B (Business-to-Business) transactions. This is a significant shift, as e-Invoicing was previously only mandatory for B2G (Business-to-Government) transactions. The change aims to streamline the invoicing process and enhance compliance.

How will Belgium roll out the new e-Invoicing system?

Belgium will adopt the PEPPOL (Pan-European Public Procurement Online) network for its e-Invoicing system. PEPPOL is a standardized framework that facilitates the secure and efficient exchange of procurement documents, including invoices, across Europe. This approach ensures interoperability and reduces the chances of errors in the invoicing process.

Why is PEPPOL important for the e-Invoicing transition?

PEPPOL is crucial because it provides a secure and standardized way for businesses to exchange invoices and other documents. By using certified Access Points, businesses will be able to transmit invoices in a consistent format, ensuring a smoother and faster invoicing process.

What should businesses in Belgium do to prepare for the e-Invoicing transition

Businesses should begin by familiarizing themselves with the PEPPOL framework and reviewing their current invoicing processes. Partnering with an authorized service provider, such as SNI, can help ensure compliance with the new regulations and smooth integration into the PEPPOL network.
