Starting July 1, the Lithuanian Register Center (RC) system “E. Sąskaita” will be replaced by the new platform SABIS for issuing and submitting electronic invoices (e-invoices) to public sector institutions. Companies involved in transactions with state institutions must prepare for this transition.
The new procedure offers three methods for submitting invoices: manual entry through the SABIS website, API integration for larger and frequent submissions, and using the Peppol network, which facilitates both sending and receiving invoices, making it especially relevant for future EU regulations on cross-border e-invoicing. However, businesses with direct integration from their accounting systems to the Register Center will need to reconfigure their systems for SABIS. Additionally, the invoice format will change to European standard electronic invoices (UBL XML), standardizing VAT calculation from total amounts rather than individual account lines.
The Peppol network provides significant benefits, including the ability to handle both B2G and B2B transactions and automating the receipt of e-invoices from suppliers, thus reducing manual entry, human errors, and the risk of lost invoices. As the deadline approaches, companies should adapt their systems to SABIS and consider utilizing the Peppol network for more efficient invoicing.
